This
site deals with the different genera of opistoglyph snakes.
Historically,
these snakes are called "Trugnatter" (Boiginae), because their bites
occasionally leds to envenomation.
A genus named
"cat eyed snakes" (Boiga) is
among the best known genus and
even name giver.
Furthermore, the
Boomslang (Dispholidus typus) is one
of the most
dangerous species.
This term is not taxonomically defined.
The
following pages are dedicated to opistoglyph snakes or rear-fanged
species. Both terms refer to the species's location of the fangs in the
rear positon of mouth.
On this website
I will share my experiences with the biologie, toxicology and
captive-care.
These
pages have been designed with care.
Nevertheless, new
scientific insights can lead to taxonomic changes.
I'am
trying to update this website continuously and thus, to keep
information about genera and species given in this website up-to-date
and corresponding to the latest taxonomic findings, respectively.
Of
course, no responsibility is taken for the correctness of information
regarding the toxicology and the capitve-care of the snakes.
Should
you have pictures of rare species or habitat shots, it would be great
if you could pass them to me.
